Final Stats

BALTIMORE - Jac Bullock posted 16 kills in just 25 swings and had five total blocks, as the Loyola University Maryland volleyball team opened play in the Radisson Cross Keys Greyhound Challenge with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-22 victory over La Salle University on Friday night in Reitz Arena.

Lauren Andersen directed an efficient offense that hit a season-best .310 for the match. Andersen passed out 39 assists and also had a pair of kills on dumps, two service aces and five digs.

Bullock put away kills on each of her first eight swings and had only three errors in her 25 attempts. She hit a season-high .520, and with her blocking total, she was in on 21 of the Greyhounds' 75 points.

Simone Reid, a week after setting a career-high with 10 kills against Norfolk State University, posted nine kills and a .412 hitting percentage, and Jane Lukas had seven kills without an error in 15 attempts.

Mindy Maloney added six kills and matched Bullock's five blocks.

Loyola (2-3 overall) trailed just twice in the first set, the final time coming when Ashley Felton posted a kill for the Explorers (1-5). Maloney had a kill to sideout for Loyola, and Micah Duzey then served five-straight points including an ace to put Loyola in front, 9-5.

La Salle got back within a pair of points, 19-17, on a Kelly Perillo ace, but after a Loyola timeout, the Greyhounds got a sideout kill from Bullock on the right side. La Salle earned a point after a Loyola service error, but the Greyhounds scored five of the next eight to close the set.

Loyola held the Explorers to a negative hitting percentage, -.069, in the first set, and a .094 clip for the match. Loyola had 10 total blocks and 43 digs, led by 13 each from Duzey and Kara Schiffer.

The Greyhounds led from the outset of the second set before back-to-back hitting errors put La Salle on top by a point, 14-13. Reid, however, put away one of her eight kills for sideout to tie the match before a Phoebe Cook-Ashley Felton block gave La Salle its last lead of the match.

Maloney had a solo block on Felton to get the serve back for Loyola, and she put down a kill for the next point. A Faye Lukas service ace made it 17-15 Loyola, and her sister, Jane, had a kill to make it a three-point lead.

La Salle climbed back to within one, 20-19, on one of Perillo's team-high 11 kills, but a Jane Lukas kill gave the serve to Schiffer, and Loyola scored the next four. Reid and Bullock combined for a block on the first point, and Lukas and Bullock locked a block for the second. Bullock then put away kills in the middle of the court for the final two points of the second set.

Loyola scored the third set's first five points and later led by seven, 15-8, on a Explorers' attack miscue, but La Salle tied it at 19-19 on a Elena Lamping-Laura Kuhlmeier block. Bullock had a kill for the Greyhounds out of a timeout, however, and the Greyhounds never trailed again.

The Greyhounds play two matches in the tournament on Saturday, hosting UMBC at 2 p.m. and the University of Delaware at 7 p.m. La Salle faces Delaware at 11:30 a.m. and UMBC at 4:30 p.m. in the day's other matches.
