Towson, Md. - Loyola's second win of the season came via a sweep of Navy (25-17, 25-29, 26-24), Saturday afternoon in the Battle of Baltimore at Towson Center Arena.
Freshman Katie Dircks led the Greyhounds with 13 kills while Nina Camaioni had 12 on the day. Camaioni posted her fourth double-double of the season by adding 11 digs. She also had four of Loyola's seven service aces.
The Greyhounds (2-5) opened strong in the first set, taking an early lead and not relinquishing it. Navy threatened in the second set, jumping out to a 6-1 lead. The Mids (1-5) capitalized on Greyhound errors, but a kill by Camaioni tied the game at 10-10 and sparked a rally. Loyola held Navy off while Camaioni, Dircks and Taylor Koncelik quickly built up the lead.
Navy wasn't done threatening the Greyhounds ` lead after the second set. The Mids took a 3-0 lead to open game three, but Loyola scored eight straight points and began to pull away. But the Mids began to catch up with several kills by Megan Carpenter.
After the game was tied at 15-15, the two teams battled back and forth. Karlee Woodward, Annie Manes and Koncelik came through in the clutch with key blocks and Woodward tallied a couple late kills. Camaioni put one last one away to give the Greyhounds the match.
