Louisville, Ky. - The Loyola volleyball team fell to Jacksonville State 3-0 in their season opener Friday. The Greyhounds faced the Gamecocks in the opening round of Louisville's Courtyard Marriot Tournament.Loyola, under first year head coach Kristina Hernandez, struggled for the first few plays of game one but soon came into their own. The Greyhounds got close to Jacksonville but their initial dept was too hard to overcome, falling 30-22 in game one.Game two was all Gamecocks with a 30-10 final but it gave Loyola fight for game three. The `Hounds held the lead twice late in the game but ultimately fell, 30-26.Juniors Becky Corb and Jamie Arndt led Loyola with nine kills each. Freshman Christina Greenup tallied four kills in her first collegiate game. Setter Krystal Biegaj was credited with 18 assists while libero Meghan McCarney had 19 digs.Jacksonville was led by Suzi Terrell with 13 kills and Abby Breit with 12.The Greyhounds face the host on Saturday at 1:00 and the University of Virginia at 4:30.
