PITTSBURGH, PA - Duquesne handed Loyola's volleyball team a 3-1 loss in what was the season-opener for both squads during first-round action at the 2003 Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational tournament.
The Dukes got off to a good start, winning games one and two by scores of 30-27 and 30-25, respectively, dropping game three 30-24, and then holding on to edge Loyola in game four 37-35.
Despite the loss, Loyola received an excellent performance from freshman, Susanna Leffers, as she racked up a match-high 17 kills to go with 15 digs, four aces and 2.5 blocks.
Greyhound sophomore Becky Corb chipped in with 15 kills and 14 digs, sophomore Jamie Arndt recorded 12 kills and seven digs, while freshman Blair Snyder nailed down 11 kills and picked up two blocks. Sophomore setter Krystal Biegaj dished out a match-high 46 assists.
Only three Duquesne players posted double-digit kill totals in the victory.
Loyola returns to action today at 3 p.m. when it faces Eastern Michigan in the second round of the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational.
