Edison, N.J. - Freshman sprinter Whitney Gibbs has been selected as the MAAC's Indoor Track Performer of the Week, it was announced by conference officials Tuesday afternoon. The weekly award is the first of the season and career for Gibbs.
In her first two collegiate meets, Gibbs set three individual school records, and anchored the 4x200 relay team to a program-record as well. At the Navy Blue & Gold Meet on November 17, Gibbs broke both the 60m and 200m records in times of 7.82 and 26.63, respectively. This past Saturday at the Ursinus Winter Invitational, Gibbs broke the 55m school-record in 7.58 and anchored the 4x200 relay to a 1:49.89, shattering the old record by nearly six seconds.
Loyola, who finished seventh of 18 schools at the Ursinus Winter Invitational, has just over a month to recover and train for the Gulden Relays on January 9. The event is hosted annually by Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.
The MAAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held on Friday, February 19th at The Armory Track & Field Center in New York City.
