Greyhounds Score 11 Points On Day One of MAAC Outdoor Championships

Lawrenceville, N.J. - Junior Melanie Mitchell led the Greyhounds on Day One of the MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday evening in Lawrenceville, N.J. Mitchell posted six of Loyola's 11 points on the day with only field events and two distance races competed.

Mitchell had Loyola's top finish on Saturday with a fifth-place showing in the javelin. She then placed eighth in both the long jump and hammer throw to wrap up the scoring in the field events.

On the track, juniors Maureen Wynne and Alexandra Salani took sixth and seventh respectively in the 10,000-meter run to give Loyola five more points. Wynne posted a time of 39:48.40, while Salani crossed the finish line in 40:11.57.

Loyola is in fifth place overall with 11 team points. Manhattan leads the field heading into the second and final day on Sunday.

Competition from Rider University will resume at 11 a.m. on Sunday morning.
