Edison, N.J. - Melanie Mitchell was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track Performer of the Week, the conference announced today. The senior led the Greyhounds at their first-ever home meet at the new Johns Hopkins/Loyola College Track and Field Complex last Wednesday.
Mitchell competed in five events and scored three first place finishes. On the track, she ran in the last leg of the 4x400 relay and helped the team clock in a final 4:15.46 time. She also competed in the 100 hurdles and finished in fourth at 18.82.
In the field, the senior threw 32.35 meters in the javelin throw and had a 5.19 meter jump in the long jump, garnering wins in both events. She also took second place in the shot put with a 10.18 meter mark.
Mitchell and the Greyhounds will compete in the Widener Invitational this weekend starting at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Mitchell has also been accepted to compete in the upcoming Penn Relays on April 23.
