Track & Field Competes At Towson Invitational Saturday

March 25, 2010

After finishing second at last weekend's Navy Invitational, the Loyola track & field team will make the four-mile drive to compete at the Towson Invitational Saturday, March 27 at Johnny Unitas Stadium. The 10,000m run and throwing events will commence the Invite at 10:30 am.

Also set to compete at the Tigers' annual Invitational are Johns Hopkins, Coppin State, Delaware, Rowan, Mary Washington, Essex County (NJ) College, York College and St. Thomas Aquinas.

A week after recording a school-record in the 100m (12.35), Whitney Gibbs will look to further diminish that time and will also enter the 200m and 4x100 relay.

Freshman Megan Trainer will also enter three throwing events (shot put, discus, hammer throw) after setting the Loyola record in the hammer throw (29.72m) last weekend at Navy. Angeline Diamond is also entered in for the three throwing events.

For the first time this outdoor season, Loyola will enter runners in the 3,000m Steeplechase (Stephanie Gibney) and the 5,000m (Amanda Bossi, Emily Rooney and Alex Beaver).

Freshman Gina Allen will make her Greyhounds debut in the pole vault, while indoor school-record holder Noreen Petrash is also penciled into the event, along with Kelsey Powell.

After resting up from the strenuous indoor season last week, several distance runners for Loyola will run in their first outdoor meet this season. Jackie D'Antonio is entered in the 800m along with Calli Pappas, Alyssa Doyle, Brittney Gibbons, Margaret Larkin, Brittany Gruber and Nellie Honan.

Emily Doucette, Courtney McNamara and Colleen Kinealy are running in the 1,500m after sitting out last weekend, as will Audrey McGonigle.

Following the meet at Towson, Loyola, along with Johns Hopkins University, will co-host the Baltimore Metro Invitational Friday, April 9 at the Johns Hopkins/Loyola Track & Field Complex. The complex is located in downtown Baltimore on Hopkins' Eastern Campus near Loch Raven and East 33rd Street.
