CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland indoor track and field junior Sara Gilson was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced by the league office Friday. Gilson was one of 10 female student-athletes to be honored by the Patriot League for their work on and off the track.
Gilson finished 12th at the 2015 Patriot League Indoor Championships, running the mile in a season-best time of 5:32.74.
A chemistry major, Gilson carries a 3.976 grade-point average and was one of two juniors to be named to the all-academic team; Boston University's Shelby Stableford was the other. They were joined by Corina Velazco (American), Lisa Junta (Army), Tessa Runels (Boston University), Kim Nagotko (Bucknell), Michelle McGahan (Holy Cross), Brittany Powell (Lafayette), Natalie Bates (Lehigh) and Sarah Bernhardt (Navy) on the all-academic team.
Stableford was named the Patriot League's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student athlete with sophomore, junior or senior standing must carry at least a 3.2 GPA. Nominees are taken from each Patriot League institution and winners are determined by voting. Additional student-athletes will be honored at the end of the winter season on the league's Academic Honor Roll.
