Track & Field Returns To Action In NYC

BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland women's indoor track & field team returns to the track on Friday, Jan. 13, after more than a month off as the Greyhounds compete in the New York City Gotham Cup.

Senior Samantha Westley led the Greyhounds in their first meet at the Lehigh Invitational on Dec. 3, 2011, finishing first in the 60-meter hurldes and four in the 60-meter dash. Westley crossed the finish line in a time of 9.50 second in the hurdles, coming just ,06 seconds away from resetting her own school record.

Four freshmen were strong in their collegiate debuts at Lehigh, with Eilis McGovern and Maria Hacker competing in the 60-meter hurdles, Charlotte Criqui competing in the 200-meter dash, and Nicole Lopez racing the 400-meter.

Senior Kristina Krupa placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.86, while sophomore Chika Dunga was the top-performer for Loyola in the 200-meter dash, placing sixth.

In the field events, Alyssa Harrison ifnished fourth in the high jump after clearing 1.45 meters. Alessandra Piscitelli was the lone thrower to compete for the Greyhounds, finishing 12th in the shot put and 11th in the weight throw.

The New York City Gotham Cup will be held at the New Balance Track & Field Center in New York, N.Y.
