Lewisburg, Pa. - The women's indoor track team opened the winter season at the Bison Invitational on Saturday, and the newcomers had much success on the track, as six freshmen competed.

"It was a big day freshman sprinters," Coach Jackie Truncellito said. "They competed in almost all of the events."

Freshmen Kristina Krupa, Casey Carey, Nellie Honan and sophomore Paige Godfrey all participated in the 400 meter dash. Krupa clocked in a time of 1:04.46 in that event and came away with a time of 27.88 in the 200 meter dash.

Loyola also finished strong in the high jump, with veteran jumper Kim Amaducci tying for 4th place with a 1.55 meter jump and Melanie Mitchell finishing with a 1.50 meter jump.

"We had great performance in the high jump, especially this early in the season," Coach Truncellito said. "These girls are jumping a great deal better than last year at this time."

In the 60 meter hurdles, freshman Samantha Westley finished the preliminaries with a time of 9.86, followed by sophomore Courtney Marro at 10.38. Neither girl qualified for the finals, although Truncellito was very excited to see that the hard work in practice finally paid off.

"We've been working pretty hard with the girls and it was good to see that work on Saturday."

The women's team will now take a month break to prepare for the Gulden Relays in Lewisburg, Pa. coming up on January 10.
