Sprinters Open Indoor Track Season At Metro Holiday Season Opener

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Loyola University Maryland women's track team opened the 2015-16 indoor track season Saturday afternoon at the Metro Holiday Season Opener hosted by Manhattan College.

The Greyhounds competed in the brand new Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, which opened in November.

Loyola recorded seven top-20 finishes, including five from Greyhounds that ran in individual races.

Junior Claire Scavone took 14th in the 200m with a time of 26.71, while freshman Molly Smith and junior Jessa Laspesa also recorded a pair of top-20 finishes in the 400m. In her collegiate debut, Smith finished 15th in 1:00.67, while Laspesa came across the finish line soon after, in 1:00.91 (18th).

Sophomores Emma Dunleavy and Sarah Bronk set personal records in the 500m, with times of 1:21.05 (14th) and 1:21.99 (19th), respectively.

Laspesa, Scavone, freshman Anne Lauder and Dunleavy went on to take 13th in the 4x400m relay with a time 4:08.37, while freshmen Devon Terwilliger, Christa Sidoti, Smith and sophomore Daniella Joyce took 16th (4:10.34) in the same event.

The Greyhounds return to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex at the start of the new calendar year, competing in the Spartan Regional Preview Friday, Jan. 15.
