Annapolis, Md. - Four school records were set as the Loyola women's indoor track and field team travelled to nearby Annapolis, Md., to take on Navy in a scrimmage Tuesday afternoon. Freshman sprinter Whitney Gibbs broke a pair of records, while fellow freshman Noreen Petrash and sophomore Samantha Westley broke one each.
Gibbs set records in the 60m (7.82) and 200m (26.63), breaking the old records by .52 and .28 seconds, respectively, in her collegiate debut.
Westley set a new Greyhounds mark in the 60-meter-hurdles with a 9.44, breaking the previous record by .16.
Petrash made her debut with a 2.75m jump in the pole vault, exceeding the old mark by .45 meters.
Head coach Jackie Truncellito was very pleased with her team's performance in the scrimmage, remarking that the team is at a very good place to start the season and is much farther ahead of where they were this time last year.
Trunce (Truncellito) was also impressed that the freshman not only went out with confidence, but also were able to win several of their heats.
The Greyhounds open the regular indoor season Saturday, December 5 at the Ursinus Winter Invitational in Collegeville, Pa.
