Mitchell Wraps Up Loyola Career At NCAA East Regionals

Greensboro, N.C. - Melanie Mitchell threw 30.08 meters in the Javelin Throw competition at the NCAA East Regionals on Saturday to wrap up her senior season. She is the first Greyhound to compete in a NCAA field event and the second in school history to compete at the East Regionals.

Mitchell had a fantastic season in the Javelin competition, earning the 2009 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title after throwing 38.08 meters at the Outdoor Championships. This mark also set a new Loyola record

The senior also holds school records in the Long Jump and Heptathlon and was named the 2009 Most Valuable Player at last month's Athletic Awards Banquet. She is known for her versatility both on the track and in the field.
