Women's Track And Field Opens MAAC Championships In Fifth Place

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Junior Carolyn Kennington finished in second place in the javelin throw as the Greyhound women's track and field team opened the 2006 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships in fifth place at Rider University on Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds have 13 points heading into Sunday's session. Rider leads with 76 points following the opening day.

Kennington recorded a throw of 36.70 meters to finish second for the Greyhounds while freshman Melanie Mitchell finished in seventh place with a mark of 30.49 meters.

Nicole Gilhuley took sixth place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:09.64 to complete the day for Loyola.

The conference meet continues on Sunday morning.
