Cocco Sets School Record In 3K At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland women's track & field sophomore Gabrielle Cocco set a personal record and school record in the 3,000-meter run at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., on Thursday night.

Cocco registered a time of 9:49.03 to finish in 14th, qualifying her for the ECAC Championships and breaking a seven-year old school record that was set by Andrea Rovegno in 2005.

The Greyhound 4x100-meter relay team also competed on Thursday, with Samantha Westley, Charlotte Criqui, Eilis McGovern and Courtney Willeford notching a time of 51.25.

Willeford also competed in the heptathlon for the first time in her collegiate career, placing fifth. She totaled 3,163 points, with her highest finish coming in the javelin where she finished third. Willeford also took fourth in the 200 portion with a time of 27.62, and fourth in the shot put with a mark of 9.53 meters. Emma Dewart from Ithaca won the heptathlon with 5,006 points.

The 4x800 relay team will be in action at the Penn Relays on Saturday, while the rest of the team will be at the TCNJ Lions Invitational.
