Philadelphia, Penn. - Senior Melanie Mitchell took eighth overall with 3,902 points in the Heptathlon event of the 2009 Penn Relays. This finish broke her current Loyola record, set back in 2007 when she finished with 3,293 points.
After finishing in the 10th spot on Day One, Mitchell climbed the standings by collecting points in her strongest events on Wednesday. She began Day Two with a 4.97 meter mark in the Long jump. Mitchell then threw 32.08 meters, good for the runner-up spot in the Javelin competition. She finished by running a 2:36.16 in the 800 Meter Run to move her up in the final standings to take the eighth position.
Loyola continues to compete in the Penn Relays, with senior Maureen Wynne taking the track Thursday evening for the Women's 10,000 Meter Run.
Seniors Gian Caccia and Chris Heibell, along with junior Dan McDevitt will represent the Greyhound Cross Country team in the Men's 5,000 Meter Run, also taking place Thursday night.
