Philadelphia, Penn. - Senior Melanie Mitchell collected 2,522 points after Day One of the Heptathlon event in the Penn Relays. She competed in the High Jump, Shot Put, and the 200 Meter Run on Tuesday.
Mitchell started with hurdles and finished at 18:45 time for 423 points. She moved on to field competition, first with a 1.5 meter jump in the High Jump for 621 points. She then scored a third-place finish in the Shot Put with a 9.99 meter mark and collected 529 points. The senior finished the day with a solid 28.26 time in the 200 Meter Run, good for 610 points.
Currently in 10th place, Mitchell will compete in her strongest events in Day Two on Wednesday, including the Javelin Throw, Long Jump and the 800 Meter Run.
On Thursday, teammate and senior Maureen Wynne will compete in the women's 10k and men's cross country seniors Gian Caccia, Chris Heibell and junior Dad McDevitt will run in the men's 5k to complete Loyola's events in the 2009 Penn Relays.
