Track & Field Places Several In Top Five at Widener Invite

CHESTER, Pa. - Whitney Gibbs tied the Loyola school-record in the 200m dash as the Loyola track & field team had a solid showing at the Widener Invitational Saturday afternoon. Gibbs' record time placed her sixth in the event.

Gibbs time of 26.17 in the 200m dash matched that of Paige Thomas, who ran the same time at the 2007 Morgan State Invitational. The New Haven, Conn., native, also finished second overall in the 100m dash in 12.61.

Stephanie Gibney matched Gibbs' performance in the 5000m with a second place time in 18:05.09.

The next highest showing for the Greyhounds was the 4x100 relay team of Samantha Westley, Lauryn Granara, Kristina Krupa and Gibbs that took third in 50.37.

Westley also took fourth in the 100m hurdles in 16.00 and Krupa took fifth in the 400m in 1:00.76.

The only other top five finish was turned in by Marci Baileys with a 10.24 effort in the triple jump.

The Loyola track & field team will take several team members to the Penn Relays at Franklin Field Thursday, April 22. The Penn Relays is the oldest and largest track & field competition in the United States.

Kim Amaducci will compete in the high jump and Amanda Bossi will enter the 10,000m.

The team of Lauryn Granara, Kristina Krupa, Samantha Westley, Whitney Gibbs will enter the 4x200 relay and of the foursome Emily Doucette, Brittney Gibbons, Courtney McNamara, Jackie D'Antonio will compete in the 4x800 relay.
