PHILADELPHIA, PA - Running with a split squad amidst horrible conditions, Loyola's women's track team managed to turn out some decent performances, including both Jackie Truncellito and Andrea Rovegno smashing personal bests in the 5,000-meter run at Sunday's Penn Open Invitational.
Truncellito blazed to a time of 17:56.01 while Rovegno bested her previous best by 29 seconds with her time of 18:02.12 in this 3.1-mile race that opened the day's competition.
Jackie Gaines recorded another good showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as she finished fourth overall.
"I felt bad for everyone having to compete today in the absolutely horrible conditions," said Loyola Head Coach Chris Bayless. "But, no one complained a bit and actually ran pretty well. Thankfully, we escaped without anyone getting injured and now we have a week off before our Morgan State meet, which is the last prep for the [Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference] MAAC Championships."
Like Bayless said, the Greyhound will be off next week before competing on April 17th at the Morgan State meet in Loyola's final contest before the MAAC Championships.
