Relays Close Out Competition For Track At Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Loyola University Maryland track team closed out competition at the Colonial Relays Saturday afternoon hosted by College of William & Mary. 

The final day was packed with relay races, as the 4x100m squad of sophomore Daniella Joyce, juniors Jessa Laspesa and Claire Scavone and freshman Olivia Airhart took 27th, clocking a time of 52.00 flat.

Four underclassmen ran the 1,600m sprint medley relay, including sophomore Emma Dunleavy and freshmen Molly Smith, Devon Terwilliger and MaryEllen Woods. The Greyhounds finished 21st in 4:16.13.

Joyce, Airhart, freshman Erin Gamble and senior Brianna Nelson also led the 4x200m relay to a 21st-place finish, as Airhart ran the final leg and crossed the finish line in 1:48.92.

Laspesa, Smith, Scavone and Dunleavy all ran in their second relay of the day, the 4x400m, taking 21st in 4:01.00.

Off the track, freshman Anne Lauder set a program record in the triple jump with a mark of 10.43m. Lauder bested Jenna Smith's 2014 record of 10.42m and took 18th overall. 

Men's cross country veterans Tom Porth, Sean Brennan, Brad Beard and Alex Saffadi ran in the distance medley relay, taking 16th in 10:47.31.

The Greyhounds return to action Friday at the Towson Invitational. Events begin at 4 p.m., at the Tigers' Johnny Unitas Stadium.
