TOWSON, Md. - The Loyola University Maryland women's track & field team began its outdoor season at the Towson Invitational in Towson, Md., on Saturday, notching five top-10 finishes in the first meet of the spring.
Junior Jackie D'Antonio and senior Samantha Westley each had seventh-place finishes on the track, with D'Antonio finishing the 800 in 2:19.91, and Westley crossing the line in 16.00 in the 100 hurdles.
Amy Macchiaverna and Alyssa Harrison each finished in the top-10 in the high jump. Macchiaverna registered a fifth-place finish, clearing a height of 1.50 meters, while Harrison tied for sixth with a mark of 1.45 meters.
Courtney Willeford was the top Greyhound in the 200-meter run, finishing the event with a personal-best time of 27.85 to place 21st.
Gabrielle Cocco also had a strong race behind D'Antonio in the 800, notching 11th in 2:21.90.
In the 100 hurdles, Eilis McGovern took 12th in her first outdoor meet with a time of 16.82.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Westley, McGovern, Kristina Krupa and Willeford had the highest finish for Loyola on the day, taking fourth in 51.22.
In the field events, freshman Jenna Smith was the top Loyola finisher in both horizontal jump events, placing 18th in the long jump (4.19m) and 14th in the triple jump (3.86m).
Alessandra Piscitelli made her Loyola outdoor debut, notching 23rd in the shot put (8.93m), 16th in the discus (29.94m) and 17th in the hammer throw (31.60m).
The Greyhounds return to the track on April 6 and 7 at the Colonial Relays.
