WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Junior Carolyn Kennington finished eighth in the javelin throw as the Greyhounds opened the 2006 outdoor track season with a strong performance at the Monmouth Season Opener on Saturday afternoon.

"I am really pleased with the team's performances this weekend," Coach Julie Culley said. "We have a group of freshmen who are really pushing the momentum of our program."

Kennington, who did not compete during the indoor track season, threw for a mark of 110 feet, 0 inches to earn the eighth-place finish. "The addition of Carolyn again will help us tremendously," Culley said.

Michelle McVann finished in 37th place in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:13.67 while winning her heat in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:31.22, which was good for 23rd place overall. Competing in the first outdoor meet of her college career, freshman Kelly Wolf earned 17th place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:28.15 while freshman Maureen Wynne recorded a time of 5:10.97 in the 1500 meter run, which was good for 33rd place.

The Greyhounds return to action on Saturday when they travel to the University of Maryland for the Terrapin Invitational. "We are off to a great start, but we have tougher competition ahead," Culley said.
