Another Record Setting Day for Track & Field at the Navy Sweetheart Meet

Jackie D'Antonio won the 1,000m in a school record 3:04.28 to lead the Loyola indoor track and field team to a runner-up finish at the Navy Sweetheart Meet in its final tuneup for the 2010 MAAC Championships.  Samantha Westley (9.42) also set a school record in the 60m hurdles, and the sprint medley relay team shattered the program-record as well.

For the second straight meet, a pair of Greyhounds recorded times that bested the previous school record in the 1,000m, but D'Antonio bested Courtney McNamara, who finished in 3:05.30.  McNamara placed second in the event to D'Antonio.  Last week, Emily Doucette ran a 3:08.07 in the event to set to the previous mark.

Whitney Gibbs ran the opening leg of the sprint medley relay, and was followed by Lauryn Granara, Kristina Krupa and Doucette to run a 4:17.23, shattering the old mark by seven seconds. Krupa and Doucette ran the third and fourth legs of the old record-setting relay team, following Angeline Diamond and Brittany Goodby .

Gibbs also finished fourth in the 60m dash in a time of 8.22.

Other solid performances were clocked in the mile with Stephanie Gibney (5:14.95), Kate Cervo (5:18.43) and Colleen Kinealy (5:21.41), placing 3-4-5, respectively.

The Greyhounds will travel to the Armory Track & Field Center in New York City to compete at the conference championships on February 19.
