Canas Sets Personal Record In Day One Of Armory Invitational

NEW YORK - Senior Erica Canas set a personal-best Friday as the Loyola University Maryland women's track team competed on the first day of the Armory Track Invitational at the New Balance Track and Field Center.

Canas led the Greyhounds with a personal record of 18:11.46 in the 5,000m. The veteran distance runner finished 24th overall.

Loyola's distance medley relay team of junior Sarah Askine, freshmen Molly Smith, Mary Sutton and Christina Daniels closed out the day's events taking eighth and tallying one team point with a time of 12:40.83.

Earlier in the afternoon, Sutton opened the meet competing in the 3,000m. Sutton took 15th and crossed the finish line in 10:58.39.

In the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles, freshman Anne Lauder came in 72nd with a time of 10.32.

Freshman MaryEllen Woods and sophomore Emma Dunleavy each competed in the 500m, finishing in 1:20.65 (25th) and 1:21.09 (27th), respectively.

The Greyhounds return to action Saturday morning, competing in the final day of the Armory Invitational.
