New Balance Complete Results

The Loyola University Maryland women’s track and field team completed competition this weekend at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational and the Lehigh Covert Classic on Saturday, winning a pair of events and setting several personal-best marks.

At the prestigious New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the Armory in New York City, Samantha Westley reset her school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.35 seconds to place 52nd.

“This was great for Sam,” commented head coach Amy Horst. “It was really her first high-pressure meet and to perform the way she did in the meet of this caliber is impressive.”

The Greyhounds had other solid performances, with senior Stephanie Gibney setting a personal record in the 3,000 with a time of 10:23.52. Gabrielle Cocco also set a personal mark while finishing 16th in the mile with a time of 5:06.82.

The distance medley relay team of Jackie D’Antonio, Gabrielle Cocco, Stephanie Gibney and Emily Doucette came just seconds away from qualifying for the ECAC, finishing the race in 14th with a time of 12:14.70.

“I was really pleased with how the athletes that raced this morning performed,” said  Horst. “We had a quick turnaround after the distance medley relay on Friday night, with the athletes only having about 12 hours in between races, which is something they aren’t used to. I was happy with the distance medley relay. We would have liked to qualify for ECAC but it was still a good race and we learned a lot from it.”

Many of the younger Greyhounds took part in the Lehigh Covert Classic on Saturday, where a pair of freshmen made some noise, claiming their first collegiate victories.

First it was Kellyanne Bondulich taking first in the 1,000 with a personal-best time of 3:13.83. Kelly Maguire also picked-up a top-five finish in fourth with a time of 3:17.83.

Anna Bosse followed that performance with a first-place finish of her own in the 3,000, finishing in a personal-best time of 10:57.62. Jessica Peters placed third in the same race in 11:01.82 and Mary DeGregorio took ninth in 11:34.38.

Also of note, Loyola junior DJ Puleo ran a personal record time of 4:18.31 in the mile at the New Balance Collegiate Invite while racing unattached. Puleo and Greyhound senior Matt Hassett will race at Boston University next week.

The women’s track team is next at Navy on Thursday.
