NEW YORK - After more than a month away from the track, the Loyola University Maryland women’s track & field team returned to action at the New York City Gotham Cup on Friday. Samantha Westley started the New Year in style by resetting her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.38 seconds.
Lisa Potter came less than a second away from the Loyola record in the 500-meter run, placing 23rd in the event with a time of 1:22.70.
Kelly Maguire paced the Greyhounds in the 1,000, finishing 22nd with a time of 3:10.94.
Kiera Henderson posted a top-20 finish for Loyola in the mile, crossing the finish line in 5:32.38 to take 18th.
Loyola was most impressive in the 3,000-meter run, with three runners placing in the top 21. Stephanie Gibney took home the lone top-10 finish for the Greyhounds, placing eighth in 10:42.08. Emily Doucette also raced well, finishing 16th, while Jessica Peters took 21st.
In the field events, Amy Macchiaverna placed 16th in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.50 meters. Macchiaverna also took 25th in the long jump with a leap of 4.46 meters. Kelly Hilbert was the top finisher for the Greyhounds in the long jump in 20th at 4.70 meters.
Loyola returns to action at the Patriot Games on Jan. 28 in Fairfax, Va.
