Lewisburg, Pa. - The Loyola women's track team posted four school records to highlight a successful start to the New Year at the Gulden Relays in Lewisburg, Pa. on Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds ran well as a team with all four records coming in relay events.
The most impressive performance came in the distance medley relay, where freshman Lindsay Wilson, junior Nicole Gilhuley, freshman Kate Cervo and senior Andrea Rovegno teamed up to smash the old Loyola mark by 35 seconds. The foursome ran a time of 12:41.28, three one-hundreths of a second out of second place.
In the 4x200 relay, the `Hounds posted a time of 1:55.16 with Brittany McDonald, Angeline Diamond, Melanie Mitchell and Anna Gerz sprinting to the finish. The sprint medley team, which consisted of Mitchell, McDonald, Gerz and Sara Ochs, posted a record time of 4:54.62 for Loyola.
The Greyhounds also took fourth in the 4x800 relay with strong performances from Wilson, freshman Megan Harpe, Cervo and Rovegno. The team finished the race in 10:00.93.
"I think we competed at a high level today," said Head Coach Brett Harvey. "We need to continue to improve as the season goes along and I'm looking forward to seeing what this team can do."
The Loyola men also ran a handful of unattached athletes at the meet. Brian Parker and Gian Caccia highlighted the group. Parker took second in the 3,000 with a time of 8:50.31, while Caccia finished fourth in the Mile in 4:29.47.
The women return to action next Saturday at the Maryland Invitational in College Park.
