EDISON, NJ - Loyola women's tennis seniors Carolyn Pilkington and Gina Turturiello were named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's (MAAC) New York Lottery Women's Tennis All-Academic team while the Greyhound men placed Nick Bowers and Adam Wessinger on the men's all-academic team as announced by the conference offices on Friday, April 23rd.
Pilkington, who has a 3.31 GPA and is majoring in communications, is making her third consecutive appearance on the MAAC All-Academic team. At the same time, Pilkington is on her way to earning a fourth varsity letter in women's tennis and holds the Loyola women's tennis record for most doubles wins in a career with 71.
Business-major Gina Turturiello earned her third consecutive league all-academic selection after posting a 3.42 GPA in the classroom while manning the No. 3 singles slot for the Greyhounds on the court. Turturiello went 11-6 on the year in singles action.
Junior No. 1 singles player Nick Bowers earned all-academic accolades with his 3.22 GPA in political science. Bowers has helped lead the Greyhounds to a .500 mark this year.
Adam Wessinger has bounced between the No. 3 and 4 singles position throughout 2003-04 and has been very successful at both spots. Meanwhile, the junior from Melville, NY is carrying an impressive 3.77 GPA in elementary education.
18 athletes make up the MAAC men's tennis all-academic team as 19 athletes have been named to the MAAC women's all-academic squad.
All four Loyola athletes named to the team will be trying to help their respective Greyhound squads win the conference championship this Friday through Sunday at the 2004 MAAC Championships held at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, NY.
