Tennis Duo Wins Consolation Title At Eastern Collegiate

West Point, N.Y. - Sophomore Lauren Cassle and freshman Andie Keyser- Baker teamed up to win the No. 2 doubles consolation championship at the Eastern Collegiate in West Point, N.Y. The youthful Loyola duo swept through the bracket with wins over doubles' tandems from Niagara, Marist and Long Island.

An 8-2 win in the quarterfinals advanced Cassle and Keyser-Baker to a semifinal match-up with Marist. The Greyhound pair won 8-6 to face Stephanie Elie and Dana Lahens (Long Island) in the finals. Cassle and Keyser-Baker won 8-5 to claim the flight title.

In other doubles consolation play, senior co-captains Meaghan McKenna and Mallory Tarca fell to Buffalo's Tina Jacob and Diane Toia in the quarterfinals.

Loyola's Lane Maloney was the lone Greyhound in the championship flights after her Day One victories advanced her to the semifinals in the No. 5 single bracket. Maloney fell to West Virginia's Ashley Pilsbury, however, by scores of 6-3, 6-1.

The Greyhounds also participated in several back draw superset matches where freshman Joy Johnson and sophomores Stephanie Dunn, Caitlyn Day and Kerri Swan all earned wins before second-round losses.

Loyola returns to action on September 20 when it hosts Coppin State at the Butler Courts.
