Caitlyn Day And Kerri Swan Advance To Consolation Semifinals At ECAC Collegiate

West Point, N.Y. - Freshmen Caitlyn Day and Kerri Swan advanced to the consolation semifinal round of the 2006 ECAC Collegiate in West Point, N.Y. on Saturday. The Greyhounds, who played four freshmen in the four singles brackets, had two fall in the semis and two in the quarters.

Day competed in the Singles A bracket and started the day with a win over Megan Gurek of Marist, defeating the MAAC foe, 9-8(2) in a superset. The freshmen fell to Ebru Burdurphy in the semifinals in the evening.

Swan, meanwhile, defeated Lisa Chu of Seton Hall, 8-6, to advance to her semifinal bracket. In the Singles D semi, Swan played a grueling three set match with Victoria Vousha of Stony Brook and fell 6-4, 4-6, 10-4.

Freshman Stephanie Dunn played in the B flight and fell to Laura Marin of Howard, while Lauren Cassle dropped her Singles C match with Veronika Gerka of Seton Hall.

Loyola, which has played in two non-team scoring tournaments this season, begins dual match competition on Thursday, September 21 at Baltimore foe Coppin State.
