Women's Tennis Defeats Siena In First Round At MAAC Championships

In first round action at the 2004 MAAC Tennis Championships, Loyola's women bested Siena, 5-2. The fourth-seeded Greyhound women won 2-of-3 doubles' matches, as well as 4-of-6 matches in singles' competition.

Loyola's No. 2 doubles team of Amy Nitch and Jessica Liberatore notched an important victory in their match, winning 8-6. In perhaps the closest match of the day, the No. 3 doubles contest, the Greyhound duo of Gina Turturiello and Claire Najour emerged with an important 9-8 win.

In singles action, Kaitlin Russo was victorious in the No. 2 competition, winning 7-5, 6-3. Loyola benefited from a strong showing in the No's 4, 5 & 6 singles plays. Amy Nitch, Claire Najour and Stefanie Clay, all won their matches and secured victory for the Greyhounds.

On Saturday, Loyola will face top seeded Niagara in the second round of the MAAC Championship.
