FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - Despite a win at number three singles by sophomore Meaghan McKenna, the Greyhound women's tennis team dropped its opening match at the 2006 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships with a 6-1 decision against Fairfield University on Friday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the men's team also fell in its first match of the tournament with a 7-0 decision to Marist College.
McKenna earned a tough 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory over Alexis Accomando at number three singles to account for Loyola's lone point in the match. McKenna split her two matches as she teamed up with Laura Cuti and lost at number three doubles in a tough 8-6 setback.
The women's team will play in a consolation match against eighth-seeded Saint Peter's College on Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m. Meanwhile, the men's team will face Rider in the first consolation match of the day at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
