Loyola Women Advance, Men Fall To Niagara In First Round Of Championships

Queens, N.Y. - The third-seeded Loyola women's team defeated Manhattan College 6-1 on Friday afternoon to move on to the semifinals of the 2009 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The Greyhounds will now face #2 Fairfield University on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

Loyola grabbed five of the six points in straight-set singles matches. No. 1 Rachel Janasek defeated Lindsay Keeler 6-3, 6-3, No. 2 Caitlin Day defeated Morgan Mactaggart 6-1, 6-3, No. 4 Kerri Swan defeated Casey Conklin 6-4, 6-4, No. 5 Joy Johnson took the match win over Christine Krasinski 6-0, 6-2 and No. 6 Judy Lite defeated Christina Ton 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles play, partners Janasek and Swan shut out their opponents at the number one spot 8-0 and Day and Stephanie Dunn won 8-6 at the No. 3 position.

The men's team closed the season with a 6-1 loss to #5 Niagara on Friday afternoon in the First Round of the MAAC Championships. Freshman Keyan Sanai was the only winner for the Greyhounds and defeated Marc Dickinson 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles spot.
