Greyhounds Top Saint Peter's

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams finished the MAAC regular season with a split at Saint Peter's on Sunday afternoon. The women earned a 6-1 to improve their overall record to 9-7, while the men fell to 9-8 on the year with a 5-2 loss to the Peacocks.

The women swept the doubles competition to get a jump on Saint Peter's. Kerri Swan and Joy Johnson won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, Caitlyn Day and Stephanie Dunn teamed up for an 8-6 win at No. 2, while Lauren Cassle and Andie Keyser- Baker claimed an 8-4 win at No. 3.

In singles action, the Loyola women won their matches in straight sets. Day won her match at No. 1, Swan won at No. 2. It was Dunn taking the win at No. 4, senior Meaghan McKenna winning at No. 5 and Cassle wrapping up a perfect season against MAAC foes (7-0) with a win at No. 6.

In men's competition, Matt McDaniel earned Loyola's first point with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Freshman Jamie Russo earned Loyola's second point with a 1-6, 6-2, 10-7 win at No. 6 singles.

The men also had a pair of hard-fought three set losses with senior Doug Alban dropping a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win at No. 4, and Dan D'Agostino dropping a 6-4, 6-7 (7-5) loss at No. 5.

In doubles play, Scott Gannon and Alban fell 8-4 at No. 1. It was McDaniel and Tim Koch dropping an 8-6 decision at No. 2 and D'Agostino teaming with Russo for an 8-4 loss at No. 3.

The men will next compete at the MAAC Championships at the U.S. Open in Flushing, N.Y. The women host Towson to close the regular season on Tuesday afternoon at the Butler Courts.
