Tennis Teams Sweep Saint Peter's

Baltimore, Md. - Loyola's tennis teams earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) wins at home on Sunday afternoon, defeating Saint Peter's at the Butler Courts. The women win 6-1 and improve to 8-4 overall while the men win 5-2 and move to 10-7 on the year.

In women's action, the Greyhounds grabbed the doubles point with Amy Nitch and Jessica Liberatore winning No. 1 doubles 8-4 while Meagan McKenna and Claire Najour wrapped up the point with an 8-4 win at No. 2.

Liberatore and Christi Lazar earned hard-fought singles victories to get the `Hounds rolling. Liberatore took No. 2 singles 6-0, 2-6, 7-5 and Lazar won No. 3 with 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 set victories. Najour won No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-1 while Stefanie Clay and Caitlin LaRocco each won 6-1, 6-0 singles matches to give Loyola six points on the day.

On the men's side, Dan Scheimel and John Curran clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Playing two men up, Ben Epstein and Scott Gannon won their matches by default, putting the pressure on No. 1 through No. 4 singles.

Scheimel claimed the fourth point of the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles while Curran also won in straight sets to complete the scoring.

The men host Lafayette on Thursday while the women return to action this Tuesday. They head to UMBC for a 3:30 p.m. match.
