Nitch Clinches Women's Tennis Win At Fairfield

New Haven, Conn. - Amy Nitch battled back from a 4-0 deficit in her third set No. 1 singles match and was able to fight off five match points to claim victory for herself and the Greyhounds on Saturday night at the Yale Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn. Playing MAAC foe Fairfield in Yale's indoor facility, the `Hounds won 4-3 on the women's side and fell 6-1 in men's competition.

Nitch's three-hour match, which concluded early Sunday morning, was set up by Loyola victories at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles. Jessica Liberatore won the No. 2 match with 6-3, 6-3 victories, Meaghan McKenna won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2, and Mallory Tarca won her No. 5 match in straight sets - 6-1, 6-3.

On the men's side, Ben Epstein won a hard-fought No. 3 singles match. After dropping the first set, 2-6, Epstein won the second set 6-1 and came out on top in third and final set, 7-5.

The men won at No. 2 doubles with Sean Wall and Chad Morrow claiming a 9-8 victory. Epstein and Scott Gannon played a tough No. 1 doubles' match, but fell 8-6 as Fairfield won the point.

Both the men and women will be in action on Sunday when they face Saint Peter's College in Jersey City, N.J.
