Tennis Sweeps Broncs For First MAAC Win

Lawrenceville, N.J. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams earned their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference wins of the year with victories at Rider on Monday afternoon. The men topped the Broncs by a score of 6-1, while the women claimed a 7-0 victory in Lawrenceville.

The men swept the doubles competition with Scott Gannon and Doug Alban teaming up for the first win as a No. 1 duo. Tim Koch and Matt McDaniel won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles, while Loyola's freshmen tandem of Jamie Russo and Dan D'Agostino won 8-4 at No. 3.

In singles play, Scott Gannon won a three set match with scores of 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. McDaniel, Koch, Alban and D'Agostino all won in straight sets at Nos. 2-5 singles, while Russo fell, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 6.

The women posted victories in each doubles and singles match, beginning at No. 1 doubles with Kerri Swan and Lauren Cassle. Seniors Meaghan McKenna and Mallory Tarca won 8-1 at No. 2, and Andie Keyser- Baker teamed up with Melanie Ocampos-Barry for an 8-1 win at No. 3.

In singles action, Swam won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. It was McKenna who won 6-2, 6-4 at No.2, while Cassle, Keyser-Baker, Tarca and Ocampos-Barry all won their singles matches in straight sets.

With the wins, Loyola's women improve to 7-6 on the year, while the men improve to 8-6 this season. Both squads return to MAAC play this Friday when they travel to Manhattan for a 3 p.m. meeting with the Jaspers.
