Albany, N.Y. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams defeated Siena in Albany, N.Y. on Saturday. The matches, played inside because of inclement weather, concluded late Saturday night. The men won 6-1 and improve their record to 8-4 while the women won 4-3 to improve to 5-3.
On the men's side, Trevor McDonough and Nick Bowers starting things off with an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles. Scott Gannon and John Curran won by the same 8-5 score at No. 2 while Dan Schiemel and Ben Epstein completed the doubles' sweep with a win at No. 3.
McDonough dropped a very tough three-set match at No. 1 singles, but Bowers came back with a 7-6, 3-6 (7) win at No. 2. Schiemel (No. 3), Gannon (No. 4), Curran (No. 5) and Epstein (No. 6) each won their matches in straight sets.
The women dropped the doubles point, but grabbed wins at No. 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Amy Nitch won a 6-1, 6-4 match at No. 1 while Christi Lazar won by the same score at No. 4. Claire Najour won a three-set match at No. 5 and Stefanie Clay took the No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-1.
Both teams play at Marist tomorrow.
