Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola women's tennis team improved to 4-2 this season with a 4-3 win over Morgan State on Wednesday afternoon at the Butler Tennis Courts. The Greyhounds prevailed with the doubles' point and wins at Nos. 3, 4 and 5 singles.
Loyola's freshmen tandem of Caitlyn Day and Stephanie Dunn rolled to an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles to get the `Hounds started. Two more freshmen in Lauren Cassle and Kerri Swan teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles to seal the point, while junior co-captains Mallory Tarca and Meaghan McKenna earned an 8-3 win to sweep doubles play.
In singles competition, Day dropped a tough match at No. 1, falling 11-9 in the tiebreaker to bring the two squads even. Cassle and McKenna won in straight sets to put Loyola one point away from clinching, and Dunn delivered the victory with her three-set match at No. 3.
Cassle won her No. 4 singles match with scores of 7-5, 6-4. McKenna, meanwhile, won 6-2, 6-0 in her straight set victory at No. 5. Dunn, who clinched the win at No. 3, dropped her first set, 3-6, and battled back to win 6-3 and 6-4.
The women take their two-match win streak into Friday's match with Delaware State. The Greyhounds host the Hornets at the Butler Courts at 2 p.m.
