Women's Tennis Uses Depth To Defeat George Mason

Fairfax, Va. - The Greyhounds opened the spring schedule on Sunday with a 4-3 victory over George Mason in Fairfax, Va. Loyola used straight set victories in No. 3 through No. 6 singles to improve their overall record to 4-1 on the season.

After a 9-7 win in No. 1 doubles, George Mason rallied to take the doubles point. The Patriots also won No. 1 and No. 2 singles before Loyola's depth pulled out the win.

Amy Nitch defeated Jamie Delorie in straight sets (6-1, 6-4) to get the 'Hounds rolling. Jessica Liberatore (No. 4) followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Katie Sloper and Claire Najour knotted the score at 3-3 with her victory over Natalie Budar.

The match would come down to No. 6 singles and Stefanie Clay , after a tough 7-5 win the first set, completed the Loyola win with a 6-0 victory in her second set with Deepti Bhalla.

Loyola heads to Georgetown this Thursday, Feb. 26 for a match with the Hoyas.
