Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams defeated Coppin State University on Saturday evening at the Greenspring Racquet Club. The women's team finished with the 6-1 victory to increase their season record to 3-0 and the men won 7-0 to move up 2-0 for the season.
On the women's side, freshman Rachel Janasek kicked things off with a 6-4, 6-1 victory in No. 1 singles play. Sophomore Andie Keyser-Baker won No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3 and junior Stephanie Dunn picked up the victory at the number four spot, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Judy Lite defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in No. 5 singles and sophomore Lane Maloney won by default in her No. 6 singles match.
In doubles play, Janasek and Keyser-Baker defeated their opponents in No. 1 doubles play, 8-5. Junior Caitlyn Day and partner Dunn took the No. 2 doubles victory at 8-0 while freshman Jackie Lionetta and Maloney won by default in No. 3 doubles.
For the men's team, the freshman helped lead the Greyhounds in singles play. Keyan Sanai won the No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-1 and J. Pierce Norton took the 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles. Kevin Zingler continued with 6-0, 6-0 win at the number three position.
In doubles action, the No. 1 team of junior Tim Koch and freshman Chet Milot loss a tough 9-8 match, with a 7-5 fall in the tie-breaker. Sophomores Rob Mattison and Patrick Glaessner took the 8-0 victory at No. 2 and D'Agostino and Russo won by default at No. 3 doubles.
The teams now take a break before hosting Morgan State in the first home match of the season on Wednesday, March 11 at 2 p.m.
