OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Three Loyola University Maryland women’s soccer players – Didi Haracic, Kelsey Rene and Nichole Schiro – earned All-Northeast Region Third Team honors, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. All three players are making their first appearance on the all-region team.
Haracic, the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, started all 22 games in goal for the Greyhounds this year, logging 1972 minutes. She led the MAAC with six shutouts and was second with 106 saves, while posting a 1.14 goals-against average. The junior from Round Hill, Va., earned first-team All-MAAC honors this year and was included on the MAAC All-Tournament team after helping Loyola to the conference title and a berth in the NCAA Championships.
Rene was also a member of the All-MAAC First Team. A senior back from Dayton, N.J., Rene tallied two goals on the year, including scoring the game-winner in a 1-0 won over Fairfield in the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament. A transfer from Florida International, she concludes her career with six goals and nine points in two seasons at Loyola. She was also a two-time All-MAAC First Team honoree and a MAAC All-Tournament Team selection as a junior.
Schiro, a senior forward from Okemos, Mich., will graduate as the program’s all-time leader in points (119) and goals (52). The only MAAC player to receive the Offensive Player of the Year award for three-consecutive years, Schiro was also a three-time All-MAAC First Team selection and was a member of the MAAC All-Rookie Team in 2009. She has also been honored for her work in the classroom as she was a member of the Capital One Academic All-America First Team and was a nominee for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.
