BALTIMORE - Loyola sophomore forward Christina Gomez was named to the SoccerBuzz Magazine Elite National Team of the Week today after scoring two goals and adding an assist at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships last weekend.
Gomez scored in the 33rd minute of the MAAC Championship Game against Marist, nailing a penalty kick to put the Greyhounds ahead, 2-0, the final margin by which they would win their ninth MAAC Championship.
She also scored the Greyhounds' second goal and assisted on Colleen Kinealy's eventual game-winner in Loyola's 2-0 semifinal victory over Fairfield.
The Greyhounds earned their sixth berth to the NCAA Women's Soccer College Cup and will play seventh-ranked Virginia on Friday, November 16, at 5 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va.
Gomez, who was named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team, leads the Greyhounds with eight goals and 22 points this season. She is also second on the team with six assists.
The honor by SoccerBuzz is the first of Gomez's career and the second of the season for a Loyola player. Brittany Henderson earned the honor after the Greyhounds defeated Wake Forest and tied Virginia Tech in early September.
