Women's Soccer Heads to MAAC Tournament

BALTIMORE, MD - Joe Mallia and his 2003 women's soccer squad are the No. 1 seed in this weekends Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference after winning the regular season conference title with a 8-0-1 league mark.

The Greyhounds are looking towards their straight fourth conference title with wins this weekend and their third consecutive trip to the NCCA tournament. "We are proud of our regular season accomplishments and are excited about the weekend and the opportunity it presents in regards to a NCAA bid," Mallia said.

As the No. 1 seed, Loyola will face Rider (11-6-2, 6-3-0) in the second game on Friday, November 7th at 1:30 p.m. The tournament is being hosted by Rider and the opening game will feature the No 2 seed, Niagara against the three seed, Fairfield.

Loyola defeated Rider in their regular season contest, 1-0 with the game winning goal coming from freshman Carolyn Kennington. The Greyhounds outshot the Broncs 19-2 in that contest. With a win over Rider, the Greyhounds would face the winner of the Niagara-Fairfield match-up on Sunday Nov. 9 at 1:00 p.m.

"We will look at this weekend with the mentality that we have a game on Friday and with a win we have a game on Sunday, both against top-notch opponents," Mallia said.

In Loyola's regular season games against Niagara and Fairfield, the Greyhounds came out on top against both opponents with 2-1 scores. Against the Stags, senior Katie Elliott scored both Loyola goals while at Niagara, Elliott scored the first and defender Lindsay Tracey added the game-winner.

"Our conference has grown more competitive with each year and I feel we have witnessed that thought this season," Mallia said. "That will make for an exciting weekend."
