BALTIMORE, Md. - Loyola University Maryland women's soccer junior forward Nichole Schiro has been named to the 2011-12 Capital One Academic All-District Second Team, as announced by the organization on Friday afternoon.
Schiro, who has a 3.89 grade-point average in Biology, earns the recognition just one day after being named 2011 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year.
The Okemos, Mich., native led the Greyhounds with 11 goals and 26 points on the season and holds the Loyola career goals record with 35 entering the 2011 Chick-fil-A MAAC Championship.
She scored the first hat-trick for the program since 2005 in a, 6-1, win over Manhattan and followed that by scoring the game-winning overtime goal against Saint Peter's to qualify the Greyhounds for the MAAC tournament.
Schiro is a two-time member of the MAAC All-Academic team as well as a two-time MAAC Offensive Player of the Year award recipient. This is her first Academic All-District Honor.
The Greyhounds take on No. 3 seed Niagara on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Ridley Athletic Complex in a MAAC Championship semifinal match.
