Nov. 3, 2014

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland women's soccer senior Kelly Santangelo was named to the All-Patriot League First Team and senior Colleen Folan and junior Charlotte Miller were voted to the second team, as announced by the league office Monday.

Santangelo's being named to an all-conference team for the second time in her career. The defender from Sayville, New York, was a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team selection in 2011, helping the Greyhounds to an 8-12-1 record, and runner-up to the MAAC Tournament Title.

An integral part of Loyola's back line, Santangelo held league opponents to only four goals during her senior campaign being named the league's defender of the week on Monday, Sept. 15. She helped the team finish tied for second in goals-against average throughout league play, allowing only 0.44 goals per game. Santangelo helped the Greyhounds' defense post five-straight shutouts to end the regular season, holding the second-longest unbeaten streak, behind only the United States Naval Academy.

Folan, a two-time Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, has carded 10 clean sheets to move into sole possession of third place in Loyola's single-season records. She holds the longest active shutout streak in the league at 555:07, which is also the longest shutout streak for a Greyhound since Brittany Henderson put together 721:14 scoreless minutes back in 2007.

The Downingtown, Pennsylvania native leads the Patriot League in overall shutouts (10) and in league play (six). She also finished second in the league with a 0.40 goals-against average. During league play, Folan's .897 save percentage is third among Patriot League goalkeepers.

On the other end of the field, Miller finished the year with seven points (two goals, three assists). She scored the game-winning goal against Boston University, handing the Terriers their only loss in Patriot League play. Five days later, the junior forward went on to score the game-winning goal against American University, helping contribute to the current five-game unbeaten streak for the Greyhounds.

Throughout her career, the Scarsdale, New York native, has been among the team's top-three shot providers, tallying 86 shots during her time in the green and grey uniform. Miller has scored seven goals and contributed eight assists in three years.

The sixth-seeded Greyhounds will take on No. 3 seed United States Naval Academy on Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament. The Midshipmen will host Loyola for a 7 p.m., kickoff.
