Loyola University Maryland women's soccer junior forward Nichole Schiro was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and ECAC Offensive Player of the Week after totaling four goals and helping the Greyhounds qualify for the 2011 Chick-fil-A MAAC Championship.
A native of Okemos, Mich., Schiro totaled four goals and eight points, helping the Greyhounds to a 2-0-0 weekend with wins over Manhattan and Saint Peter's. She tallied a natural hat trick, scoring the first three goals of the game in the first half of a 6-1 win over Manhattan on Friday night. It was the first hat trick for a Greyhound since 2005, and it gave the junior 34 for her career, breaking the Loyola program record for goals in a career. Schiro followed that performance by scoring a goal in the first overtime of a 1-0 win over Saint Peter's that sent the Greyhounds to make their 19th MAAC Championship appearance. She totaled two game-winning goals, giving her three on the season while her 11 total goals are the fourth-most in a single-season in Loyola history.
It was the second award of the season for Schiro and sixth of her career.
