Edison, N.J. - Goalkeeper Brittany Henderson was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon. This is the fifth weekly honor (15th career) Henderson has received and the third straight issued by the MAAC this season.
Henderson concluded the 2009 regular season with a pair of 1-0 shutouts over conference rivals Saint Peter's and Manhattan. After holding the Peahens scoreless in an overtime thriller on October 23, Henderson made four saves in her ninth shutout of the season against the Jaspers on October 25.
Henderson in her career is now 36-20-10 with 25 of her wins coming via shutout. The Commack, N.Y., native, also has 296 career saves, which along with her 25 clean sheets are second all-time at Loyola. The five-foot-nine goalkeeper has allowed just a 1.10 GAA in her career and has a .791 save percentage. Since the start of her sophomore year, Henderson has allowed just three goals in the month of October, accumulating to a 0.14 goals against average.
The Greyhounds are back in action Friday, October 30 when they take on either Rider or Manhattan in the quarterfinals of the MAAC Championship. Loyola (13-4-2, 9-0-0 MAAC) earned the number one seed and a first-round bye after winning the MAAC regular season title.
