CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland women’s soccer freshman Julianna Cabrera was named the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the League office Monday.
The rookie played all 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over Army West Point on Saturday night, helping the Greyhounds to their second shutout of the season.
Army West Point entered the match averaging a league-leading 17.8 shots per conference contest, but behind Cabrera’s work in the midfield, the Black Knights were held to just six shots, their lowest total in a Patriot League contest.
With the win, Loyola moved into a tie for third place with the United States Naval Academy in the Patriot League standings. With 10 points and three games remaining, the Greyhounds trail just Boston University (16 points) and Bucknell University (11).
This is the first weekly honor for Cabrera and the third award for Loyola this season.
The Greyhounds will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Bucknell for a key Patriot League matchup in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
